As one of the world’s most advanced producers of semiconductors and electronics, Taiwan opens up opportunities for Lithuania’s laser sector to expand its cooperation in the fields of optical elements and laser process integration. This cooperation is particularly important due to the continuous growth in applications and demand for laser technologies in various industries. Currently, as much as 60% of the laser solutions used in Taiwan are applied to materials processing, ranging from precision cutting to sophisticated surface finishing processes. In addition, 10% of laser technology in Taiwan is used for marking, 20% for measurement and communication, and 10% for medical applications and various research applications. With its strong laser industry, Lithuania can make a significant contribution to these areas.
On 2-6 September, the Lithuanian Laser Association organized an outgoing business mission to Taiwan to provide an opportunity for Lithuanian laser companies to present themselves and their products, establish new contacts with potential foreign partners, and discuss business opportunities. This initiative opened up opportunities not only to establish new contacts but also to deepen technological knowledge and seek common solutions that would benefit both the Lithuanian and Taiwanese technology sectors.
A reminder, that the Lithuanian Laser Association and its companies, in cooperation with the Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), opened the Lithuanian Laser Laboratory (Ultrafast Laser. Technology Research and Innovation Center – ULTRI) in September 2023. 14 Lithuanian companies in the laser and photonics fields contributed to the opening of the laboratory by investing €1.5 million in the centre’s laboratory equipment. Taiwan has also invested €1.5 million to build modern facilities for laser professionals.
The business mission was co-financed by the State of the Republic of Lithuania.

The Lithuanian Laser Association brings together representatives of the Lithuanian laser sector and not only promotes cooperation in the Lithuanian ecosystem but also engagement in international value chains, export growth and sector’s visability. In the period 2024/04 – 2025/02, the Association is implementing the project “Export Promotion of the Lithuanian Laser Sector in business Missions” (No. 11-04-16.2.1.K-004), partly financed by the State Budget of the Republic of Lithuania.
The upcoming business mission if foreseen to the United States of America (Arizona/California) in January 2025. The business mission will target companies operating in the SS priority theme “Photonics and Laser Technologies”.
